The Motherland
Inspired by the "Kingdom of Women" documented in the Book of the Later Han: Treatise on the Dongyi and the Gazetteer of Foreign Lands (Zhu Fan Zhi), this work constructs a matrilineal realm independent of patriarchal logic. By weaving together historical geography, mythological fabrication, and visionary cartography, it reconstructs a visual narrative where gender, exoticism, the colonial gaze, and sacrificial politics intersect. Through themes of exile, ritual, and escape, the project exposes disciplined gender performances and latent oppression, offering a critical reflection on the mechanisms of gender representation in contemporary visual culture.
