Living organisms and organizations use signals to transmit information internally, achieving the unity of knowledge and action. The overwhelming amount of data and image information in contemporary society is like a virus, constantly infiltrating each of us. Every action we take is connected to it, and this is precisely a key method of group control. As Donna Haraway said, "Our machines are unsettlingly vibrant, while we ourselves are lifeless." As machines and humans evolve, perhaps we will become increasingly like our manufactured selves.
