Faceless – Living visuals through the mind of an AI.
Faceless aims to explore the idea of empathy and interaction between people and machines.
Can they feel us? Can they speak to us? What way of communication will they choose if they can?
The projected image of Faceless represents the thoughts and feelings of an AI, generated from its experiences and visual senses throughout the day. Faceless is what the AI sees and feels. It recognizes the visitor’s faces and emotions and reacts through visual output. Over time the AI will change depending on the interaction with its visitors. If the AI sees many visitors it will be happy and playful, but left alone it will become sad and lonely. Even if the machine can recognize your emotion, does it truly understand the meaning of the labels it gives to visitors? Does it can understand the concept of "happiness" or "sadness'. Do we can? The second question "Does the people can understand o even want to understand machines"? Us the result of the installation - people more careful about themselves, how they look and does it looks enough to create a selfie, rather than trying to communicate with the machine or even question what does that colorful image means.
The 30 faces on the wall represent our digital avatars through the mind of the AI, how we are seen at a basic level of understanding, and how we continue to live within the digital world in the minds of machines. We meet hundreds of people in our everyday life and in few minutes we forgot them. We think we are, but they fire some connections in our brain and made a little change that will be with you forever. The same with the machine, it forgets your face after one minute, but it will slightly change the data that will stay.
