X Percent of You establishes a futuristic society set in the year 3050. With the widespread adoption of consciousness uploading technology, humanity attains digital immortality, and all memories are stored on the cloud in data form. Nevertheless, the continuous proliferation of consciousness data gradually saturates global memory storage resources. Hence, the Memory Management Center comes into being as a futuristic public service facility that every citizen must visit regularly. To free up limited storage space, each person needs to independently select and erase portions of their life memories.
Narrated in the first person, the work invites audiences to enter the Memory Management Center as "citizens". They will go through identity verification, consciousness scanning, browsing personal memory archives, and voluntarily selecting memories for deletion, immersing themselves in a futuristic ritual of "choosing to forget". Most people tend to erase pain, regrets and trauma first, yet such experiences often form essential components that shape one’s personality. When memories can be edited just like data and forgetting becomes a social institution, can we still remain whole?
The work is created through a combination of AI-generated visuals and digital post-production. It integrates technologies including AI-aided visual generation, futuristic interface design, motion graphics and film post-production to build futuristic visual narratives and expressive imagery of digital life.
Created in response to competition themes such as Future Cities & Future Life, AI Video & Digital Life, and Domes, Gardens & Spatial Immersion, this work can be presented as experimental single-screen footage, and is also adaptable to exhibition venues including 270° curved-screen cinemas and public display screens. By crafting immersive viewing experiences and the scenario of futuristic public services, the work guides the public to contemplate the relationships between digital life, memory ethics and identity, shaping a culturally relevant topic worthy of public discussion.
