This project explores the transformation of the self in the context of digital media, shifting from a continuous narrative to a data structure. In an environment shaped by information streams and short-form content, temporal experience is constantly fragmented, and individuals move across multiple platforms, producing fragmented and non-continuous identities. The work raises a central question: when the self can be analyzed, invoked, and generated through data, does its sense of continuity still hold?
During interaction, audiences engage with the system through everyday smartphone gestures such as swiping and clicking. These behavioral inputs are captured in real time and translated into visual driving signals. As data continuously feeds into the system, the projected facial image undergoes layering, distortion, and reconstruction, forming multiple evolving identity states and making the otherwise invisible process of “self-generation” visually perceptible.
The system is developed using TouchDesigner for real-time visual processing, combined with ZigSim for mobile sensor data transmission, and Max/MSP for interaction mapping and data logic processing, enabling a closed-loop system between human behavior, data transformation, and visual output.
