Still, Life reinterprets the tradition of still-life painting through digital algorithms.
Historically, still life has served as a meditation on time, decay, and renewal. In this work, impermanence arises not from physical deterioration but from the dynamic interplay between algorithmic generation and audience interaction.
Using Gaussian Splatting, a machine-learning technique for rendering 3D scenes, the work intentionally preserves computational errors, revealing the limitations and peculiarities of AI-based creation.
As viewers engage with the piece, the image fragments and reassembles into floating constellations of particles—symbolizing humanity’s persistent impulse to intervene in and reshape the environment.
Over time, the composition reforms into a “still life,” echoing the ephemerality once conveyed by rotting fruit or wilting flowers in classical painting.
The work invites reflection on the intertwined relationship between tradition and technology—
how we both shape the world, and are continually shaped by it.
