The impacts of global climate change are posing increasingly severe challenges to the survival and development of all humanity. According to research estimates, by 2030, the Internet and its supporting systems (ICT) will consume 20% of the world's total energy, becoming one of the largest sources of pollution. Unused applications, draft backups, duplicate photos, sent emails, and stored streaming videos in daily life are all part of digital waste.
We explore the issue of digital carbon emissions through installation art, conceiving and designing three different-shaped and differently-moving installations, symbolizing the various actions of sending, transmitting, and storing during digital activities, and explaining the presentation form of the "trace" (trajectory, mark, actual trace) in the theme of digital carbon trails. The work aims to prompt viewers to think about the high energy consumption and environmental hazards of digital activities, and encourage people to pay attention to the sustainable development in the digital age.
