"Shared habitat: Invisible land" understands our habitat as one in which we are not alone: we share this habitat with countless fellow beings near and far, other living beings, machines and artifacts. Our well-being is based on the atmosphere created by the actions of these creatures, which is not dividable, but a shared destiny.
The project shows a special existence in the plant world: lichen. It is easily ignored because of its ordinary appearance and the natural environment it inhabits. In fact, this plant plays a vanguard role in the natural succession, creating the conditions for the growth of other higher plants. It is also an "indicator" of air quality.
Through building the VR/AR installations, the project is to show people the world of this microscopic lichen, and hopefully to raise awareness for the protection of our habitat and biodiversity.
The work is divided into 2 parts, the first part is a VR installation of a lichen-filled scene, which is based on photogrammetry technology. After wearing the VR glasses, viewers can use the handles to control the direction of flight in the virtual world and observe different shapes of lichens; the second part is an AR application using plane detection technology, after entering the app, users can click on the screen to generate lichens in augmented reality and interact with them in the detected space.
