RESIDUE (Melbourne) is an interactive installation that turns Melbourne's cityscape into a living, dissolving archive. Video of the city's parks, streets, and redevelopment sites is captured, then run through a custom pipeline that extracts depth and rebuilds the footage as fields of 3D particles. The forms hold the shape and colour of each place but never sit still, drifting in response to ambient sound and movement in the room. The work holds memory and impermanence in the same frame — the city remembering and forgetting itself at the same rate.
The project was created in TouchDesigner. The art work by nature is interactive and adaptable to difference location and landscape. A Hangzhou version can be create by inputting either video footage of the city or live stream directly from a source of camera. The ratio and dimension of the art work can be flexibly adjust according to need.
