"Gàn" is a dynamic installation featuring two robotic hands wearing work gloves. Through a machine vision system, they recognize each other's gestures and engage in an endless game of rock-paper-scissors.
This artwork reveals the alienation that occurs when artificial intelligence intervenes in human activities with its instrumental rationality. The title "gàn" carries a double meaning: it refers to Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), a deep learning model where generator and discriminator train through repeated adversarial interactions to approach perfection; it also alludes to the Chinese word "干" (gàn), meaning "labor." When stripped of human physicality, the game degenerates into a mechanical, absurd cycle of repetitive labor.
