Hangjin Banner boasts beautiful scenery, including well-known scenic spots such as Qixing Lake, the real-life version of "Sand Dunes" like Kubuqi, and the Ordos Grassland. So, is there a culture that can encompass all these charming landscapes and express the warmth of the city in a deeper way?
I think it's "Ancient as a Song", a kind of song tune that praises nature, ancestors and one's hometown. And such a culture is also worthy of being passed down.
"Gu Ru Ge", also known as "Gu Ru Du", was included in the second batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List on June 7, 2008. "Guru" in Mongolian means "country", "government" and "the masses". It is a large-scale vocal suite of ritual songs sung by the Mongolian royal and noble families during grand ceremonies in the court.
Its melody is beautiful and soothing, with a wide range of notes. The rhythm is steady and regular, and the tempo is relatively slow. The style is simple and elegant, and it also features the characteristics of Mongolian long tunes. It conveys deep reverence for ancestors and deities as well as praise for life in a steady and long-lasting melody, blending a solemn and dignified tune with the exquisite and delicate imperial temperament.
So for this creation, we set the protagonist as a singer living between the desert and the oasis, wearing traditional Mongolian clothing, with some of the decorations coming from wedding attire. With a sense of awe and faith, she actively sought out teachers and friends, all for the purpose of passing on the legacy. Then, with such songs, she aimed to penetrate, touch and embrace this oasis in the yellow sand, and strive to shine on the international stage.
