Flowing Colors is an audiovisual projection mapping created specifically for the Flowing Light Art Competition 2022 in Chongqing, China. It was inspired by the Huangjueping Graffiti Art Street where various creative styles meet in a colorful palette of urban art. The installation Flowing Colors aims to integrate seamlessly and delicately into the public environment, creating an original sculpture of light on the street.
This projection mapping explores the natural flow of color and light through the architectural structure of the building. It draws organic and abstract compositions, generated by mixing different digital techniques and simulations, creative coding, and custom programming. The overall effect interprets the expressive synergy in the art of lights, transforming the facade elements aesthetically. The constructivist geometric shapes are highlighted and then modified into a parametrically controlled dynamic deconstruction. This visual content is based on custom digital brushes, random noise algorithms, 2D to 3D conversion processes, fluid dynamics, and Machine Learning Style Transfer programs. All parts of the installation – its title, wireframe, polygonal surfaces, and shader materials, are integrated into a unique artistic style. Thus, the geometry of the building is interpreted as a constantly changing generative form that emphasizes its textures and, at the same time, restructures them, imitating the natural flow of color and light elements.
