I was born in a southern oil refinery, one of those remote, self-sufficient mines. When I was four years old, my mother held me in her arms to watch a high-level sympathy performance. I vaguely remember a star singing Fei Xiang's famous song "A Fire in Winter". In the middle of the performance, he ran off the stage to shake hands with the front row of the audience, and my mother and I were among them. When he reached out his hand in front of me, I was stunned, perhaps afraid, more probably shy, I always dare not reach out his hand, but he was very firmly put his hand in front of me, lasted seven or eight seconds, and finally my mother really could not stand to see, he shook his hand for me. From then on, whenever my family mentioned my timidity and shyness, my mind would come up with that hot, untouchable hand. This is also the original intention of my creation of this installation. I turned and poured my hand into a metal model and placed it in a track running back and forth. At the top of the track is a high-frequency electromagnetic coil, which will heat the iron hand to a red-hot state whenever it reaches into it. In my opinion, the action of shaking hands is both ritualistic and symbolic, revealing a certain relationship between man and man, man and society, man and the world, and even man and time. And the red-hot hand symbolizes an uncertain, uncontrollable and unpredictable future. Should we be alert, accept peacefully, or even stand in confrontation? Will be an open ending.
