Chris Wood has been pioneering these light responsive sculptures since 2000, bringing the magic of light into homes, offices and public spaces around the world. Her visually captivating artworks are made from fabricated aluminium panels, dichroic and light. The artists mathematical approach to design aims to harness patterns of light that reflect ephemeral glimpsed moments in the natural world.
'Chris Wood Light' artworks predominantly feature a material called Dichroic- originally developed by NASA in the 1960’s. Dichroic is a colourless optical coating that selectively reflects certain wavelengths of light. This allows the remaining wavelengths to transmit through, producing a variety of rainbow coloured shadows and projections. The material itself shifts from being reflective like a golden mirror to vibrantly coloured or almost transparent depending upon the viewpoint and angle of light.
