Song Dynasty paintings undoubtedly marked the heyday of ancient Chinese art and have been widely recognized as treasures of Chinese civilization. To spotlight their legacy, CGTN is launching "The Song, Painted", a virtual exhibition concept series that features six themes – Children, Style, Stage, Class, Market and Faith – to decode traditional Chinese aesthetics via the lifestyles depicted in the portraits. CGTN’s social media platforms will offer bilingual interactive webpages and an array of graphics, illustrations and hand-drawn images to take our global audience on a deep dive into Song Dynasty folklore and social conventions. Starting in August 2022, the series will bring to life more than 110 state-of-the-art masterpieces of Song Dynasty portraiture currently housed in more than 10 international museums – including Along the River During the Qingming Festival, The Night Revels of Han Xizai and Listening to the Zither (Qin). The Expert & Artists interview section will invite Chinese and international scholars to demystify Song Dynasty culture and shed light on its glorious artistic riches.
