Inspired by the core mythology of Buddhist art dating from around 400 AD. It is said that in the ancient kingdom of Gandhara in the city of Naku (present-day Afghanistan), Buddha Shakyamuni once jumped into a cave on the edge of a cliff, leaving behind a "Buddha shadow". Since then, as scriptures and pilgrims have spread, the "Buddha Shadow Caves" have inspired statues and caves throughout Asia for millennia.
The "Buddha Shadow Cave" is a myth that has been around for a long time, and because of the complex Buddhist religious connotations behind it, ordinary people can no longer touch the experience at that time, and it can even be said that "the past has become like a foreign country". However, as Professor Wang Yuejin, who has a very in-depth study of the "Buddha Shadow Cave", said, "art history ultimately has to reconstruct a certain experience", so in this project, we will explore how to restore the sensory experience of the "cave" in this cross-historical and cultural context, explore and show the fourfold connotation of the "Buddha Shadow" image in the myth of the "Buddha Shadow", and use new media technology to record and show the power of this "visible" and "invisible" image.
