Imaginary Travel is a sound artwork that discusses the feelings of discrimination, presented via the medium of video, using 3D surround sound technology to create a realistic auditory imaginary space. In addition to the sound work presented through headphones, it will also include various fictional archives including a sound map, script, a fake passport, and train tickets. It was produced from 2020 to 2021, during a period of the global epidemic when some countries closed their borders and the emergence of "Asian Hate" and anti-hate marches rising worldwide. The leading part of the story is about an Asian mother and her baby who endeavoured to hide their illness to return to their home country without restrictions, and they encountered individuals from different cultural backgrounds on a train, generating discussions and conflicts with each other. In dialogues between the mother and the police, and the black and white, the work attempts to avoid a one-sided narrative, placing all the characters in a state of concealed hypocrisy and attempting to blur moral judgments about discriminatory sentiments. Instead, the audience will join in the story as a one-year-old baby, passively receiving auditory information, moving from calm to intense and eventually into a confusing time and space.
