Monster Original

Monster is a mixed-media performance for flute, live electronics, dancer, and real-time generated video mapping. The movements of the dancers are recorded by a multi-camera system and reprojected onto his body at the same time. The basic idea of the composition is to enable the dancer to interact directly with himself, and thus, to create an immersive visual performance. In an experimental stage setting, an alchemistic laboratory is created, where diverse ingredients like music, dance, and video are melted together in order to create a new being, which transcends the original matters from which it is constructed.

The concept of Monster was inspired by ‘The Lucifer Effect. A question asked by Dr. Zimbardo : “What pushes some people to become perpetrators of evil while others to act heroically on behalf of those in need?” It was this question that led the psychologist to create the Stanford Prison Experiment. Thus, this work is meant to question ourselves, if there was an actual face underneath our faces, whether each of us has a monster living in our body.
