The End of Everythings project builds on parallel obsessions with cosmology and post-apocalyptic scenarios. As a reaction to the current climate disaster rhetoric - the end of humanity or post-terrestrial escapology – the unavoidable future and inescapable apocalypse of the end of everything is foregrounded. Through studying the evolution of stars, the gravitational dynamics of galaxies and superclusters, and the influence of dark matter and dark energy, the project develops narratives around what is generally agreed to be the end of the Universe – the phenomena known as 'heat death'.

The core focus of the work, the notion of heat death, forms an overshadowing presence to contemporary disaster rhetoric. The timelines encapsulated within the various stages serve to emphasize the fleeting moment in which stars and therefore life have been viable in the universe.


The Ends of Everythings describes the eventual impossibility of the post-apocalyptic

The project takes the form of a trilogy, dealing with three endings in post human times:

The End of the Solar System: In some 500,000,000 years the expansion of the Sun begins to make the Earth unviable for human beings. Over the following billion years the Earth is transformed into an unrecognisable place and within 3 billion years is rendered lifeless. Eventually the Sun consumes the Earth and spits its atoms back out into space.

The End of the Galaxy: The gravitational forces between the members of the Local Group cause them to merge and form a giant elliptical galaxy where star formation is no longer possible. Meanwhile the rest of the Universe moves beyond the light horizon, rendering it invisible. The remaining galaxy is an island, incapable of perceiving the existence of anything beyond its borders.

The End of the Universe: Through the Degenerate Era, the Black Hole Era and the Dark Era to the ultimate heat death of the Universe. Sparse matter has no energy. Here there is nothing
