"Currents" is a weather-responsive visual display for the LED screen situated on the riverbank. The name of the work refers to the natural ebb and flow of the rivers and canals which have traditionally provided the lifeblood of trade and resources in Chengdu. The visuals are generated from code and evoke a gentle soft movement of rippling water in harmony with the river. The aim of the work is to provide a calm, pleasant, and meditative visual display for people to view by the riverside to take a break from busy city life and reflect on nature.

This is a durational work with the movement of the digitally created water that will change slowly throughout the day and in response to the weather conditions in Chengdu. For example, when the weather is windier the ripples of the water will be more intense, and different colour themes will signify different seasons. The aim is to create a living breathing work that exists in natural harmony with the surrounding area. The visuals are generated from a computer program developed by the artist, these visuals constantly change over time and therefore the visual display will always be slightly different.
