Stefan Reiss has been researching drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, projection and light as an artistic medium for over ten years. The basis of all his works is the exploration of the theme of transformation. In his works, he focuses on human comprehension, for example the haptic perception of the artwork and the comprehensibility of space and spatiality. Virtual space and digital tools form essential components here. But in contrast to the industrial, digital transformation, he carries out a multidimensional transformation of the digital signs into the real experienceable space and back again. With the spatialisation of digital elements or the digitalisation of analogue approaches, interdisciplinary works of art are created in which both worlds not only link but also contradict each other. The transformation of real and virtual space are not linear translations in one direction, but rather mutually stimulating processes that result in a complete reordering of both spaces. Through this reciprocal transformation of analogue as well as digital worlds, tools and approaches, he connects art and technology, research and innovation, interdisciplinarity and immersion.
O.T. 976 consists of three large metal frames in which 39 ship ropes were fixed. Four projectors were used to throw a 30-minute animation of digital signs (dots, lines and polygons) onto all sides. The underlying colours were determined by translating the Latin alphabet into 26 different tones.
