Intro: CompMonks is a new-media architect born in France and based in Zürich, working at visual arts and cognitive science intersections. Throughout his education, he received extensive polymath training in science and humanities. He pursued his artistic agenda as self-taught in digital arts, emphasising natural communication, interaction and generative aesthetics. CompMonks developed a peculiar perspective to create works of art that touch both the roots of scientific understanding and the horizon of discovery with a specific interest in human visual memory, artificial and natural intelligence. His mixed-media installations weave communication and signification pathways from digital technologies and physical architectural elements, reappraising mythological figures and narratives. Whether embedded in the creative process or concrete aspects of a final work, he articulates these topics to spatially and visually express the intractable beauty of the human mind conversing with the world through computers. He graduated in 2007 from ENSA Paris-Malaquais (ENSAPM), where he was later appointed Adjunct-Assistant Professor in computational architecture from 2010 to 2015. Before joining the Polytechnic Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich, he was a Lecturer in digital design at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale Lausanne (EPFL) from 2014 to 2016. He was awarded in 2016 a fully-funded PhD fellowship from the Architecture and Technology Doctoral Programme of Excellence at ETH Zürich, where he led a postdoctoral research on interactive and generative design with brain-computer interfaces. He has been supported and exhibited in major cultural institutions in Europe, such as Centre Pompidou in Paris, France, ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, and Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria. In 2023, he was selected for the Charles Abella Prize of emerging architecture from the beaux-arts Academy in Paris, France.
