Water and Earth is a video work that stems from the artist’s research and experimentation on the aesthetics of the combination of nature and digital technology. The images from nature—water, waves—are processed by algorithms to be reduced to organic shapes, light and dark, reciprocating motions and sounds, and blended with images generated by custom computer programs based on these elements. By digitally translating the natural aesthetics which unified complexity and simplicity, it presents a digital landscape that is different from nature and undoubtedly derived from nature. Unlike purely abstract imagination of cyberspace, this digital landscape demonstrates a more intimate invasion of reality by virtual (as the technology community has always pursued mixed reality), and it also reflects the symbiotic and inseparable essential link between the two. On the one hand, technology is opening up new fields, while on the other hand, it is also transforming our existing lifestyle, social structure, culture and aesthetic taste. This not only constitutes the basic picture of our current life, but also becomes the motif of artistic creation.
