As a visual tradition spanning over seven centuries, blue and white porcelain has formed a stable and distinct visual identity through long-term historical circulation and cultural practice. Its complete recognition system is jointly constructed by unique materials, craftsmanship, and visual imagery, corresponding to tangible ceramic forms while carrying profound cultural connotations and widespread public aesthetic consensus.
Rooted in the established cultural and visual heritage of blue and white aesthetics, Unending Verdure focuses on the essential visual conditions that define the recognizability of blue and white art. Breaking away from the narrative framework of traditional ceramic vessels and classic patterns, the work reconstructs the core visual elements that constitute the aesthetic experience of blue and white. It decouples color tones, layered textures, ink diffusion effects, surface textures and visual boundaries from their traditional fixed forms, and leverages artificial intelligence technology to reorganize these elements into brand-new visual relationships. Through this creative logic, blue and white aesthetics is no longer merely a representational object, but evolves into a flexible visual structure that can be independently manipulated and reconstructed.
This creative approach detaches blue and white aesthetics from its tangible material carrier, integrating it into the contemporary context of image production. In modern visual creation, images are continuously generated and iterated across diverse media and visual systems. Walter Benjamin’s theory of mechanical reproduction verifies that reproductive technology has essentially transformed the existential form of images and restructured the way images are perceived and interpreted. Based on this theoretical perspective, blue and white culture breaks free from its single identity as a historical relic and functions as a contemporary visual resource with practical value, participating in the construction of modern image systems.
The visual construction of the work ultimately explores a set of parallel visual and cultural relationships. While maintaining the integrity of its inherent cultural tradition, the internal visual structure of blue and white art is deconstructed and reconstructed to adapt to innovative image generation mechanisms. The juxtaposition of historical visual experience and contemporary image creation enables blue and white aesthetics to retain its unique cultural recognition while fitting into modern viewing contexts, presenting diverse and innovative visual expressions.
