At the end of the Warring States period, Gongsun Yan, a master of swordsmanship from the Qin region, was pursued and hunted down by the powerful and influential figures of various states because he possessed an unparalleled sword manual. A messenger from the State of Zhao (a guest of Lord Pingyuan) secretly met with Gongsun Yan, hoping to obtain the manual. However, when an official of the Qin State's High Court (Xuan Duān) learned of this, fearing that the manual might fall into the hands of other states, he sent people to secretly hunt down Gongsun Yan. To protect his disciples and his young daughter, he was willing to die at the hands of his disciple. Before his death, he instructed his disciple to go to the Tianshan Mountains and protect his daughter for the rest of her life. Twenty years later, his daughter, Gongsun Huan, carried a sword in search of vengeance and tracked down to Luntai. Her former senior fellow apprentice had become a weathered and weary swordsman, guarding an unfinished Qiang flute in the poplar forest, silently waiting. It was not until the sword tip touched his throat that she realized - why was it precisely him who had committed the massacre of her family back then? What secret was hidden in her father's last words, "Go to Tianshan"?
