Light festivals happen at night, but night is the time for sleeping. We dream when we sleep. We sometimes fly when we are dreaming, and you need courage to follow your dream and take off on a flight. It is fascinating how a sleeping person’s body often resembles someone who really is flying, jumping, running, and climbing.
My sculptures depict different people asleep, men, women, and children lying on pillows, sometimes covered by blankets, but out of their beds, floating above us. The figures are nearly full size. All of them should fly in the same direction.
They are fashioned from galvanized steel wire, and therefore quite firm, light, and transparent. Sprayed with a special paint, the steel wire glows at night when bathed in ultraviolet light. The installation is accompanied by quiet, somnolent music (optional).
The installation consists of fifteen sculptures, along with black light lamps (Typhoon outdoor). If we want to use the background music, organizer should provide audio equipment (an audio player and two speakers). We will need electricity supply and power cables.
The best place for the installation would be a dark lane in a park, where it would be relatively easy to hang the figures between trees at a height of three to five meters. The ultraviolet lamps could be attached to the trunks and pointed upwards, causing the sculptures to glow while avoid blinding viewers.
I could also hang the figures in an alleyway between buildings, but there should be no light in the windows and no street lamps.
