https://simonemartinotta.com/monade/Monade is conceived as a suspended landscape, an ontological threshold where the apparent stability of nature and the transformative force of human becoming coexist in a state of continuous tension. Rather than functioning as a passage between opposites, it unfolds as a relational space in which being and becoming remain inseparable, allowing every form to exist in a condition of perpetual openness and transformation.
Within this framework, the fragment is understood not as a sign of incompleteness but as a generative principle. Each element contains the possibility of reflecting a larger whole that is never fixed or fully given, but constantly reconfigured through relationships and perspectives. In this sense, the project draws on the Leibnizian idea of the monad, where every part simultaneously expresses and reinterprets the totality from its own point of view.
This condition finds a spatial counterpart in the lagoon landscape, where land and water do not exist as opposing entities but continuously intermingle within an unstable equilibrium. The lagoon thus becomes a figure of the extended monad: a dynamic field in which emergence and dissolution, permanence and change, remain in constant negotiation. Meaning arises through these shifting relations, opening a space in which reality and perception are continuously redefined through the possibility of new configurations.
