“Going home” is China’s most profound emotional ritual. The high-speed train compresses a thousand miles into a few hours—physical distance shrinks, but the inner distance does not necessarily follow. I try to capture a single moment: the train enters a tunnel, the window turns black, and in the reflection, his own face appears. In that moment, do we truly see “ourselves”?

The window becomes the only screen. The boy moves from boredom to wonder, experiencing an intracranial carnival on the glass: his childhood self comes running, his mother’s silhouette faintly appears, light spots turn into stars, and reflections grow wings. Visually, the film combines digital collage with analog collage. The fragmented textures and the dislocation of materials echo the nonlinearity of memory—memory is never a seamless film, but broken, reassembled, and overlaid shards.

This is not only the boy’s journey home, but also a spiritual缩影 of everyone in an age of hyper-mobility. Home is no longer a fixed geographical coordinate, but an inner image repeatedly superimposed in memory and summoned at any moment in a reflection. At the end of the film, the boy lifts the corners of his mouth in a smile—the destination of returning home is to retrieve the self that never truly left. “Playing on the Window” is an experiment in looking and looking back. When the window begins to “play,” we finally have a chance to meet our past selves again, gently.
