This work undertakes an archaeological dissection of materials from a family workshop and employs iron wires for mnemonic reconstruction, constructing a representative oil-painting production site since China’s reform and opening-up: the family workshops in Dafen Oil Painting Village, Shenzhen.
Every material element in the work possesses a dual nature: it is both a sacred relic of private childhood and a typical specimen of the production chain in Dafen Oil Painting Village.
The trajectories of the iron wires follow the brushwork logic of sketching, transforming painterly qualities into the language of spatial sculpture. They act as both restorers of memory and developers of emotion.
As a native generation growing up within China’s unique art ecosystem, the artist, through an archaeological excavation of the childhood living space and the emotional deconstruction and reconstruction of family workshop memories, creates a topological field of regenerated memory, elevating personal memory into collective narrative.
