The perspective that man is symbolic animal proposed by cultural philosophy founder Cassirer in An Essay on Man is the source of inspiration of my entire work. Culture is the form of symbols, and human activities are essentially a kind of "symbol" or "symbolic" ones, in which people establish people-oriented “subjectivity”, and build up a culture of the world. Language, mythology, religion, art, science and history are the composition and generation of symbolic activities. They express experience of human beings and tend towards a common goal -- shaping "cultural man".
The definition that "Men are the unity of animal and culture” tells us that men are the unification of both, no longer a purely kind of animal, and culture is no longer a thing outside of man, but an integral part of man. Man is complete only unifying the human body and culture. The most fundamental difference between the new definition of man and the previous one is that it introduces the culture into the human structure and constitutes the essential factor of human being, making human beings surpass animals and creatures to become a kind of existence higher than animals or creatures.
So I separately extracted the human symbol from the human body, as well as music, dance, art, war, health, reproduction, X-ray on behalf of the flesh and religion representative of metaphysics to produce the whole works---"Collection of Human Symbols".
