Floating points Original

The Floating Points video was created to illustrate the song of the same name by composer Zero Gr4vity. Created entirely in computer code (C++ and GLSL), the animation explores the world of 3D fractals, in particular Kaleidoscopic IFS. Somewhere between abstraction and generative art, the images created tend towards organic and sometimes floral aesthetics. While each form is born of the abstraction of equations, we can nonetheless see and recognise an aesthetic that is reminiscent of biological or marine scientific iconography. It is in this direction that the clip takes shape, revealing an entirely fictitious macroscopic bestiary. In the tradition of the botanical plates of Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919), the viewer can discover a collection of cellular organisms and phytoplankton revealed through the prism of an algorithm diverted from its original function.
