UKIYO "the floating world" explores how the legacy of the Edo Period continues into modern world Japan.
How can we find the spirit of Edo Period traditions in modern Japanese Culture?
The Show starts with an ink stroke going over the building, expanding into beautiful sceneries from the Edo period in Japan. The viewers are called by a drum to enter the kabuki theatre and watch the show. A cat sneaks into the theatre to watch it with us. In the Kabuki Theatre we find the threads of edo culture from their inception into modern Japan, traces of the Kabuki Makeup reflected in modern Kawaii Culture, the businessman has the reflection of the virtues of the hero in kabuki plays.
A fully 3D animated mapping show is transformed by AI into the style of famous Edo Period painters like Kuniyoshi and Hiroshige, then remixed again with intricate 3D animations to create a colorful, cyberpunk kabuki mapping show.
This Project started being displayed on Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in May 2024. The Project Tokyo Night and Light won a Guiness World Record as the largest permanent Projection Mapping.
