The interactive sculpture depicts a vulnerable living object that continuously transforms itself into different shapes that respond to the emotion it received from the outside. The lighthouse jellyfish, revert itself to polyp stage when the environment becomes unstable, and grows up into its medusa stage again. Borrowing this mysterious process from nature, Prologue is created as an interactive installation that celebrates this life who lives vulnerable but bravely adapting itself to its surroundings. During the exhibition, visitors come and go. No one is staying for the exhibition forever. But the jellyfish won’t know it, it doesn’t know every encounter ends prematurely as a prologue. But it still is doing its best to welcome, transform itself to adapt itself to the changing environment.
More than 16 different shapes of jellyfish can be generated through code, each one corresponds to a specific range of openness and warmth expressed by visitors. With the emotional data collected, the jellyfish is assigned a different shape each time, this new shape creates a feedback loop between the jellyfish and the visitors - it extends this prologue conversation to something deeper, and lasting experience.
