Canton embroidery culture is an important part of Cantonese culture, with far-reaching development history and rich embroidery themes, it is a classic cultural treasure around Lingnan and one of the traditional Chinese handicrafts.
Cultural inheritance is the transmission of culture in two dimensions: time and space, and the medium is the carrier and bridge for the process of cultural transmission. The work explores the attribute of "silk light" in Cantonese embroidery, and intends to use "silk light" as a medium to create a digital space for sensory experience. The main body of the installation is extracted from the shape of a traditional Canton embroidery weaving table, and the elements of tassels and pagodas in Canton embroidery culture are used to increase the visual experience. After material research, the light-conducting optical fiber is then used with the cotton thread tassels, providing a new path of artistic expression between digital media and non-heritage culture, and subtly tightening the connection between Cantonese embroidery and new media.
Experiencers approach the device to trigger somatosensory interactions, and the original wire frames are color-filled on the weaving fabrics, enhancing the real experience with color simulation, craft material performance, and restoration of the embroidery process, thus successfully conveying the narrative of Guangqiu embroidery that has been brewing and weaving in the infinite river of time, and awakening people's sense of the cultural lineage of the place where they live.
