In this installation, there is no light object but darkness. This project is only an iron cube 4 meter on one side with uncountable numbers of holes. It's quite simple. However, the combinations of environment and visitors movement makes complex light experience in the cube. The viewer enters an interactive object intersected by 60,000 holes that create the illusion of a flight through a starry sky.
Brocken is named on a phenomenon called Brocken Spector which appears at high mountains. When you stand with your back to the sun and gaze from the ridge into the mist, your shadow surrounded by a rainbow will appear. As you walk, it follows you. In this work. In this work you will see the light follow you.
There is no light object but darkness. This work is constructed by reducing, not adding. Most light is stopped by the wall. But that turns the internal experience rich. This leads to Japanese aesthetics, MA. The core of this work is holes, it is not objects. People get inside and face to the vacant space. Brocken also emphasizes the value of the darkness that is losing in our cities.
This interactive object is also illuminated by daylight, and the installation can therefore be visited and tried out before night falls.
Brocken series gained great popularity in any art festivals and have been repeatedly exhibited in countries around the world. In addition to the Light Art Collection in Amsterdam, the world’s biggest light art collection, they are also in the collection of Depo2015 (Czech Republic) and Wonderspaces (USA).
