Here at Resn Shanghai, we recently teamed up with director duo, 18 UPPERCUT, and the emerging Chinese musician, Bohan Phoenix, to produce an interactive music video for the title track off Bohan Phoenix's latest EP, Overseas. This particular collaboration is the first of many projects coming out of the newest office in Shanghai.
When we opened our doors in Shanghai in May of 2017, we did so with the intent of continuing the legacy of infecting viewer's screens with the gooiest digital experiences in the world and evolving our phygital capabilities (because let's face it, gooeyness should not only be reserved for your fingertips, but be fully immersive). Though in China, we also came into the market with a sense of humility and the intent to grow with and learn from the diverse culture and bubbling creativity of China while avoiding falling flat on our faces.
Our latest collaboration with Bohan Phoenix was our first step in what will be a continued effort to establish an inclusive creative hub in China.
The mindset of Bohan going into this album of the album and the drive to do something different with his music video was a perfect opportunity to leverage Resn's propriety multi-video streaming technology, 'Cake.' Cake, not to be confused with the delicious dessert, reimagines the audience's relationship with the film by enabling users to jump seamlessly across multiple behind-the-scenes camera angles, transporting the viewer directly onto the set to watch the execution of the one-shot video.
The one-shot video was taken from 4 different angles, breaking down the 4th wall by eventually exposing the production set-up, and film crew around Bohan. Giving viewers such exposure to the shoot is reflective of the vulnerability with which Bohan approaches the song OVERSEAS, openly airing his struggle with his identity and letting people into his world.
At Resn we are making a concerted effort to continue supporting such projects where we can expose our team to new ways of thinking and points-of-view, while also contributing something back to the artists and helping them to tell a story in a way they haven't done before.
