Antibody is an interactive performance that is set to explore the form of the human body and the possibility to transcend its physical and material constraints.
In a world where almost everything can be expressed in bits and bytes to form a digital counterpart of a physical presence, three performers, physically isolated yet digitally connected, embark upon a journey to investigate the evolution of the human body and its symbiotic relationship with technology.
Moving between translucent screens and immersed in streams of motion responsive visuals, the three dancers experience tensions between mind and body, containment and connection, and the desire to be unique as well as part of something larger than themselves.
This unique collaboration between Uncharted Limbo Collective and Alexander Whitley Dance Company, features real-time motion tracking technology that was used to generate a rich language of fully responsive visual effects, representing different layers of what we came to call “digital matter”. Research and development for the show started in March of 2021, and through multiple iterations we were able to ensure that technology and performance art worked harmoniously to enable this performance to come to life.
Choreography and visuals were developed hand-in-hand in a productive feedback loop. Set to an electrifying and soul-stirring score by Mercury Prize 2021 nominated composer Hannah Peel and music producer Kincaid, the dancers become at once set, lighting and characters in a narrative that blurs the boundaries between human essence and digital pattern.
The show premiered in October 2021 in Dance East and Oxford Playhouse and will be going on tour in Germany this summer, culminating in two performances in Sadler’s Wells’ Lilian Baylis studio in October 2022
