Kinetic Art
An immersive sensory experience where nature and technology meet.
Forming part of a series of variable geometry kinetic installations where the artist uses similar technical and formal processes, this version of Artificial reign spans four floors. Suspended in the space, Artificial reign IV assembles forty-five flexible and translucent sculptures which emit a shimmering bluish light and breathe gently. By its arrangement, behavior and form, the group is reminiscent of a colony of floating underwater creatures.
Thanks to a sensitive electronic system, the shoal has the ability to "feel" the human presence and react to it spontaneously. Like living organisms, the inflatable electroluminescent cells activate as visitors approach them: they contract and swell, wiggle and light up with greater ardor and then, in a lazy wave, propagate their agitation to the entire ecosystem.
By mimicking natural phenomena through the use of synthetic materials and artificial systems, a practice called biomimicry, the work questions the interaction between organic and technological worlds while probing the dynamics that underpin their ambiguous relationships.
To the rhythm of exhalations and inspirations, luminous wriggling and fleeting jolts, Artificial Reign IV deploys an aerial dance that contrasts with the imposing volumes and the clean lines of the architecture and transforms the space into an underwater abyss of a mysterious beauty.
