Music on a Bound String No. 2 (reflecting light) 2015 Visible sound and light sculpture | installation Dimensions variable Duration: 16 min looped Music on a Bound String is a series of works making reference to string musical instruments. The installation includes a sculpture composed of a string held between two points. A loudspeaker emits an audio signal—which is inaudible to the audience—that excites the string, causing it to display a sound wave that transforms constantly. Natural wave behaviors and properties are manipulated in a musically conceived, visual discourse that plays with notions of inaudibility and sonic visualization. In the second work of the series, light is incorporated as a structural parameter. By projecting a beam of transforming color on the vibrating string, the sound wave decomposes it, reflecting a series of colored lights that constitute it. The composition goes through different degrees of complexity, departing from a simple sound wave reflecting a pure color (green) to a complex wave form diffracting the infinite amount of colors contained in a white beam. Behind the sculpture, on a two-dimensional plane, the shadow of the vibrating string and the speaker is seen on the projected, non-diffracted bea
