Phase is an online interactive media arts piece designed for the COVID-19 times. Phase is commissioned by ChineseArtNow in the UK. The artist has been experimenting with traditional Chinese aesthetics through interactive artworks since 2015. This piece is inspired by The Fundamental Theory of Physics published by Prof.Stephen Wolfram. In the publication Prof.Wolfram proposed a model that could evolve the universe through computation - it fits in with the artist's understanding of the plain cosmology of Chinese Taoism. Not only because it sees the computational rule as Dao that opens the whole universe, or mere difference in searching orders could lead to thousands of different universes, or we as humans will only be able to interact with a certain phase. This interactive art work brings these pieces together: it sees Prof.Stephen Wolfram's computational rule as Dao, and Chinese art style as the phase.
