Chengdu Reimagined (working title) Original

My vision for this exciting project is to create a new site specific installation, which reimagines Chengdu past, present and future. I propose making an animated moving image video which explores the city of Chengdu through time. I visited the city whilst travelling around China in 1998 as a student of architecture, during which time I filled several sketch books and took many photographs, which will be used to inspire the commission.

The work will be rooted in drawing, and I will make a series of studies of the city which I will then transform in my studio through various making processes. I will then animate these to create a stunning film to be displayed on the LED screens. In terms of making and an aesthetic, it will be inspired by my recent commission Funnel Vision to create a stunning illusory layered work of intrigue and beauty, celebrating and reimagining Chengdu. I envisage that it will be accompanied by an ambient soundscape.
