Sound Art
Relief is a sculpture which addresses echolocation by means of ultrasound, projected from a robotic parametric loudspeaker. Relief premiered at Festival Novas Frequências, in Rio de Janeiro in December 2016 and was later presented in The Hague during TodaysArt Festival, 2017. Although mounted on the wall, the sculpture is primarily designed to be listened to, rather than to be gazed at. The work examines the process of hearing by decomposing sound reflections, which in turn inform the visitors of their orientation and position. The composition thus emphasizes the relationship between source and receiver. Therefore I consider Relief an echo-sculpture.
