" For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return."— Genesis 3:19 from the Bible.
The grand proposition of life and death cannot be fully demonstrated in a short film. This film is mainly based on what I see and think from my perspective: from life’s genesis, prosperity, death to the Nirvana. In my images, the wilderness, forests, ocean tides, railway lines and stars are the various journeys in my eyes.
I have witnessed many things along my journey of studying abroad, such as the loneliness of living alone in a foreign land, the happiness of pursuing dreams, the excitement of seeing different sceneries, the anxiety of the pandemic outbreak, and the sadness of losing loved ones. The house imprisonment during the lockdown period, and the received of sad news late at night relating to the death of a close relative back in my home country. I began to ponder on how to express the existence and perishment of different things through the use of images. Fate gives, and fate takes away.
The day of parting and ending will always come.
I believe that the core of life is a journey, and death is only a starting point. Although everyone is unwilling to face parting and loss, it is precisely because of death that we who cannot be eternal will know: how to cherish and respect; to persist in the exploration of time and life; to pursue love, hope, beauty, freedom, happiness and dreams; and to embark on a unknown journey full of possibilities. In my eyes, this is the most beautiful part of people, therefore I made this short film. And I hope the use of projection will bring an immersive visual experience.
May mankind always look up at the stars with clear vision. Perhaps, hundreds of millions of years later when the physical body has long returned to the stardust, that the particles that make up of us will once again have life and meet at the end of the universe.
May the hope in our hearts last forever.
