Description:
Go Back to Hiding in the Shadows is a live audiovisual performance by Pandelis Diamantides, part of a broader collection of works under the same title. The piece interweaves deconstructed human voices, physical instruments, and field recordings with visual material gathered from the Troodos mountain range in Cyprus. These elements are algorithmically processed using custom software, creating an emergent, generative interplay between sound and image.
The work reflects a digital granary of organic and synthetic fragments: rock formations, plants, animals, and swarms. These materials unfold into a narrative of becoming, exploring themes of identity, origin, and the untranslatable experience of place. Rather than replicating reality, the work seeks a deeply introspective expression of emotional and sensorial connection to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Audio and visuals are not synchronized in a literal manner; instead, they are composed in parallel, forming a cohesive emotional and poetic narrative. Each presentation of the piece is site-responsive and unique.
“I realised that what we accept as place of origin is often a construct — the imposed idea of a nation. Through this work, I attempted to return to a more intimate, internal relationship with the land I come from.” – Pandelis Diamantides
