Areo Gardens III, Wash Original

This short film is part of the “Areo Gardens” series which reflects on the surreal and sublime qualities found natural geology throughout the solar system. Each short film depicts a stone sculpture garden set on the surface of Mars, apparently defying the laws of physics. The works broaden our understanding of nature to include extraterrestrial landscapes and suggest dialog on how anthropocentric change beyond earth.

The works depict 3D scans of real rocks and boulders captured in many parts of the world using 3D photogrammetry. The landscapes are terrain maps of Martian sites obtained from the MRO/HiRise satellite program managed by NASA, JPL and the University of Arizona.
