Plai was founded at the Startup Weekend (powered by Google for Entrepreneurs) in May 2017 in Hayward, California. With the idea of an intuitive game development tool powered by artificial intelligence, the team won first place in the overall 54-hour competition. This application is the next step for the team to make the startup dream come true. We are ready to show the world the next generation of the Plai software.
Plai allows any game developer to add new content to their games and improve existing content in a fast, easy and cheap process using state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms.
The idea was born when a game developer complained to the founders about the large time commitment and tedious work it takes to create new levels and graphics. As of now, there are few tools or techniques available in the market to make this job become easier for developers and the ones that exist only help an extremely small number of developers. After more research, the team discovered an endless cycle of unnecessary wastefulness that has been harmful to the gaming community for years.
For example, the game studio behind one of the most popular mobile games Candy Crush constantly releases new levels for their games. While the fans and gamers appreciate the extra content, this costs the studio hundreds of thousands of dollars each year, as well as thousands of hours of development time (which could be spent on making new games). Other game developers have the same problem: there is no tool that can generate content at the same level of quality and in the same style as their initial levels.
Introducing Plai, a game development software that integrates with the biggest development tools, including Unity, Unreal Engine, and Cocos2D, to augment a game developer or designer’s ability to create games with beautiful graphics, well-designed levels, and unique experiences for the player. Plai allows game developers with absolutely no experience with programming or algorithms to create games with “procedural generation,” meaning a game object could have certain properties when one person plays the game, and be entirely different for another player. We are empowering developers by providing a familiar, easy-to-use software interface that runs powerful artificial intelligence algorithms behind the scenes.
