Dissolving Self: Wearable Tech X Sufi Whirling

Based on my artistic practice, Playformance, and inspired by Sufi whirling, Dissolving Self is the second iteration of the technologically-mediated mystic performance that employs wearable technology and interactive light to convey a contemporary dancer’s intrepid journey to cosmic Divinity. This staged performance piece has been curated by ISEA 2014 (The International Symposium on Electronic Art) hosted by Zayed University in Abu Dhabi and The American University in Dubai. Playformance, the synthesis of performance art, interactive technology and multimedia design, situates the human body as the serendipitous actuator of audiovisual content in order to create a live, undirected and visceral experience for the performer as well as for the audience. The artistic intent of Playformance is to offer a space for performance artists to rethink their craft in unexpected ways through the incorporation of interactive technology.
