BUILT (video art) Original

BUILT is a collection of filmic impression throughout the United Arab Emirates. Structures pierce the sky – some saluting the past, others leaning forward toward an imagined future. The city now, itself is a force of nature gently sprinkled with orange dust carried from the inland empires of dunes, rock and wind. The city invites itself abruptly to the viewer’s gaze via veins of pavement. This lies at the tension of the region that writes and rewrites its history. This is the poetic silence of the desert and the prose of technological advancement. BUILT examines the magnitude and cost of building a megacity. Minarets and skyscrapers span the dome of the perfectly cloudless gradient sky. The sharp divide between the surrounding arid desert and bustling city. The invisible, yet vast population of migrants working all hours to provide for the city lives by the whims of the city and those who have built it.
