International Network of Foundation Educators (INFE) is a professional association for people teaching on (or who are otherwise engaged with) Foundation courses in many different contexts and countries around the world.
Our members represent Foundation courses internationally and the diverse range of perspectives and creative pedagogic practice cultivated within them.
The network aims to bring together these practitioners to share ideas and discuss issues relevant to the delivery of Foundation Education
We organise conferences, workshops, summer schools and publications in order to promote and celebrate the unique qualities and content of this transformative year of education.
Foundation is most often delivered in the early stages of art and design education (commonly between school and ‘specialist’ university study). Many of the tenets of foundation teaching have a radical and a generative role that remain relevant to the later stages of art and design education. Through its continual agile evolution, interpretation of research and position outside of degree rationale, The Foundation Course might be described as the most radical art education programme developed over the past hundred years.
