TAFA Mobile Media Art Department

The construction of the Department of Mobile Media Art of the School of Experimental Art, Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts was started in 2010, and it was formerly a major of the Department of Digital Media, School of Experimental Art. Relying on the hundred-year schooling history of the Academy, and the plastic arts and aesthetics teaching traditions and philosophies, in the era of intelligentization, the Department of Mobile Media Art has lasted until today since its establishment in August 2014 through four years’ incubation. It’s listed among majors related to strategic emerging industries of Tianjin in 2011. Now, it has 235 students, 196 graduates, 7 teachers (who all studied abroad, including four with a doctoral degree) and one teaching affairs secretary. With respect to teaching software, hardware and personnel training, it has become the most influential benchmark major of new media art education in Tianjin. The Department of Mobile Media Art explores the relationship between art, science & technology and media, emphasizes the interdisciplinary and experimental nature of subjects, and regards interactive art as the core concept and creative technique of teaching. It’s divided into two studios of Physical Interactive Art (interactive installation, etc.) and Digital Interaction (mobile internet creativity in mobile terminal, virtual art-VR/AR/MR, and digital art, etc.). Compared with traditional majors, it represents the concept of artistic creation and media communication, and integrates aesthetics and design science. Most importantly, we underline the training and creation thoughts of probing into the conceptual and contemporary connotations of works which reveal constant exploration of the unknown human and artistic experience.
